When we sing Go Tell it on the Mountain, have you thought about why it says on a mountain? Throughout the Bible we see mountains used to describe a place to meet with God. Abraham, Moses, and Jesus are examples of those who had powerful experiences with God on the mountain. These were not just physical experiences, but also spiritual encounters. The mountain of the Lord spiritually refers to the place of intimacy with God. In Psalms 24:3-4, David talks about the mountain of the Lord. He says, “Who may ascend the mountain of the LORD? Who may stand in His holy place? The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not trust in an idol or swear by a false god.”
All are invited to ascend the mountain of the Lord. All are invited to come up higher, above the crowds and busyness of life. But there is a choice to be made. In the choice is a sacrifice to put your “yes” on the altar.
- What is God calling you to in 2024?
- What is your mountain?
- Might be a new mountain or might be higher up the same mountain.
To ascend the mountain of the Lord is to meet with Him where He is, from your position in the heavenly realms where “you are seated with Christ”. From here you receive His perspective, a heavenly perspective on the circumstances of earth. From this place you receive His wisdom and understanding to see farther than just the moment you are in. You receive peace and provision from Him. You can then bring that wisdom and provision back down into the earthly situations and relationships. Ascending and descending throughout the day to receive from heaven for the needs of earth. You are required to bring with you clean hands and a pure heart. You cannot bring idols and lies. We must align with the truth of our God-given design and calling in order to ascend the mountain of the Lord.
You are not called to ascend every mountain. You cannot be everything to everyone. That would be ineffective, and exhausting! He has designed and purposed you to minister on a specific mountain of influence, to a specific aspect of society. You were born at this time in history on purpose. You have a mountain calling.
So Abraham called that place The Lord Will Provide. And to this day it is said, “On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.” Genesis 22:14
