I recently realized I needed to do something about my weight. My clothes were all fitting uncomfortably tight in the waist. So I reached out to a friend who is gifted in this area and asked for her help. After working with my friend for a week, I lost 4 lbs. and gained valuable information about myself. But even more significant is what the Lord taught me.
What the Lord showed me in this week was mindfulness and intentionality. I had stopped paying close attention to how I was fueling my body. I had gradually come out of alignment with my mindset about food. I was reminded to be aware of what I am eating, how often and most importantly how large of a portion I am eating! Coming back into alignment with what is healthy and nutritious instead of just easy and fast has made a big difference.
This understanding about my body caused me to check in with the Lord and ask if this mindset is having a negative affect on any other aspect of my life. He is so good to use our physical bodies to remind us of spiritual truths.
Isn’t it so easy to get complacent and let our guard down. Pretty soon small decisions about food are adding up and having a big impact on our health, energy, and perspective. Not unlike sin which can start with entertaining thoughts and grow to small compromises. The small compromises have a greater effect than we intend or think in the moment. We think we can control sin, manage it, but once it has a foothold it grows rapidly and we realize that it is controlling us. What is the remedy for sin? What breaks the power? A divine reset. Resubmitting ourselves and that sin area of our lives to the Spirit of God. Repenting for agreeing with the sin, entertaining it and feeding it-minimizing it and trying to manage it in our own power.
Be encouraged! It’s not too late. You are not stuck or too far gone. The divine reset is for you. He is waiting for you to come and be honest with where you are. Confession is the key to freedom. Lay those daily and moment by moment choices at His feet. Release control and receive encouragement and empowerment to overcome your sin by the power of the Holy Spirit. In Him is the victory!
Blessings to you in Christ Jesus,
